Russian Time has confirmed that it has signed Luca Ghiotto for the upcoming GP2 season, alongside Artem Markelov.

Ghiotto stepped up to GP2 last season after finishing as runner-up to Esteban Ocon in GP3, and placed eighth overall in the standings with Trident, taking his first win during the Sprint Race in Malaysia.

For 2017, Ghiotto has switched to Russian Time, in place of Raffaele Marciello, where he will link up with Markelov, who will enter his fourth season in the category with the outfit.

“Let me firstly thank all at Russian Time for the great opportunity they have offered me,” said Ghiotto.

“Having crossed their cars a few times in 2016, I know how good they are!

“I think we have great potential to develop together. I’m looking forward to working with my new team-mate Artem, and can't wait to hit the track in March to start work.”

Markelov, triumphant in Monaco last year en route to 10th in the standings, is confident of making further progress.

“We made an important step last year, with a win and a top 10 finish in the championship,” he said.

“GP2 is highly competitive and I’m looking forward to doing even better in 2017 and challenging for more wins and hopefully becoming a consistent front-runner.”

Russian Time's announcement of its 2017 line-up means 13 drivers have so far committed to the championship.

Only Campos, Trident and Rapax have yet to confirm its drivers, while ART has still to name a team-mate for Nobuharu Matsushita, though GP3 runner-up Alexander Albon is expected to link up with the French team.
