Mark Webber has been named an Office of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day honours.
He has been given the title for his services to motorsport as a competitor and ambassador, as well as his charity work.
Webber debuted in F1 in 2002 and retired from the sport at the end of 2013, having claimed nine race victories, and finished third in the championship three times.
During his time in the series, he raced for Minardi, Jaguar, Williams and Red Bull, before switching to the World Endurance Championship for 2014 with Porsche.
Webber, alongside Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley, secured the 2015 WEC title and finished runner-up at Le Mans that year.
He retired from motorsport at the end of 2016 but remains at Porsche as an ambassador.
"I didn’t expect it at all. I didn’t think there would be anything coming along," Webber told News Corp.
"It’s a bit of a surprise. But I think it’s an absolute honour to be recognised at that level.
"It’s been a long-term run over here. I left a long time ago, and it’s been nice to fly the flag.
"You don’t look back too much … but I hope I represented Australia as best I could."
