DS Virgin Racing has recruited multiple GP2 race winner Alex Lynn as its reserve driver in the Formula E championship on a multi-year deal.
Lynn, who placed sixth in last year’s GP2 championship with three wins, will act as back-up to regular racers Sam Bird and José María López.
Lynn tested for the nascent Jaguar squad last summer and has now landed a new role with DS Virgin, having opted to call time on his GP2 career.
“Formula E is arguably the most competitive motor racing championship in the world, with the highest calibre of drivers,” said Lynn, who spent two years as Williams' development driver in Formula 1.
“As a driver I want to be competing in the top series, which is why I’ve been trying so hard to get into Formula E, and DS Virgin was my first choice.
“So I’m delighted to have signed a multi-year deal with DS Virgin.
“I like the combination of street racing along with the challenge of energy management.
“I think this series is going to suit me down to the ground.”
Lynn could be drafted into action in either Mexico or New York, with Bird and López both facing clashes with World Endurance Championship events.
