Spencer Pigot will return to the IndyCar Series in 2017 with Ed Carpenter Racing, joining the team for the 11 road and street course events on this year’s calendar.
Pigot, 23, made his IndyCar debut last March with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at St. Petersburg, coming off the back of his Indy Lights title victory the previous year.
After making three starts for RLL, including a run to 25th in the Indianapolis 500, Pigot joined Ed Carpenter Racing for the remaining street and road course races in 2016, with a best finish of seventh at Mid-Ohio.
On Tuesday, Ed Carpenter Racing confirmed that Pigot would be returning for 2017, racing in the No. 20 car that will be manned by team owner Ed Carpenter for the oval rounds.
"I’m very excited to be staying with Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2017 season," Pigot said.
"It’s a great feeling to know that I have a secure ride for all of the road and street course races so we can start preparing for the season now.
"I learned a lot in my rookie year and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to build on that experience.
"I know I have the team around me to fight at the front and that’s what we’ll be trying to do in 2017."
ECR will field two cars through the 2017 campaign, with JR Hildebrand replacing Josef Newgarden in the full-season No. 21 entry following the American's move to Penske.
The new IndyCar season will begin on March 12 with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
