M-Sport team boss Malcolm Wilson insists the organisation still retains faith in Eric Camilli, despite the Frenchman being moved to a WRC2 role this season.
Camilli, 29, graduated to the WRC full-time with M-Sport but a spate of incidents compromised his progress, and he placed only 11th in the final standings.
With M-Sport recruiting World Champion Sébastien Ogier following Volkswagen’s withdrawal, and re-signing Ott Tanak, Camilli has instead been moved to a WRC2 seat.
Wilson, though, insists that M-Sport still has faith in Camilli’s talent.
Éric and [co-driver] Benjamin Veillas might be taking a step back this year, but it by no means undermines our faith in their potential,” Wilson stressed.
“This year, Éric will be able to gain experience of as many events as possible without the pressures that come from competing at the highest level.
“Experience counts for a lot in this game and, if he can perform as we expect, it shouldn’t be too long before we see him back behind the wheel of a world rally car.”
