Pol Espargaro is excited to show what KTM can do in its debut MotoGP season, but admits it will be a year of learning for them both.
The Spaniard has moved from the Yamaha Tech3 team to race for the KTM factory team and although it lacks experience, the company overall is very successful in what it does and Espargaro is therefore confident heading into 2017.
"KTM have big ideas," he told the official MotoGP website. "Where they go, they win. So they’re confident of their potential, but it’s still a very young project.
"We need experience. But I’m quite positive. From the first race we need to keep improving, until the last one. We’re here to try, and show that KTM can do it."
KTM is trying a number of developments which haven't been seen in MotoGP before and although Espargaro admits it's a bit of a concern, he says they have to try these things if they're to succeed.
"We’re using different front forks that no one is using – I don’t know if that will be a problem or an advantage, but it’s certainly different.
"The tubular chassis is the most worrying thing – not because it’s bad; because it’s new. Nobody has tried it. KTM uses it everywhere else they race – but it’s really different to what MotoGP is used to. So we’re going to try it!"
