The upcoming Roborace championship – an entirely driverless series – has announced that it will share Formula E tyre supplier Michelin when it launches next year.
Roborace is expected to debut in late-2017 as a Formula E support series and therefore sharing tyre supplier makes sense.
In order to make the championship relevant to road cars, Michelin's tyres will be suitable for road use.
The French company has already begin the design and development phase and will shortly begin production.
"We are extremely proud to have Michelin as our partner. We expect our partners to be bold and to believe in a driverless future where our cities are greener, safer, quieter and smarter in ways that improve everyday lives,’’ said Denis Sverdlov, CEO, Roborace.
“Michelin impressed us every time we met and they deeply understand the powerful opportunity of what road travel will become. They are pushing us, and themselves, to develop a world that moves from possibility to reality."
Pascal Couasnon, Michelin Motorsport Director, added: "We are very excited to confirm our partnership with Roborace today. We have been following the championship’s progress very closely and have been testing privately with them for some time.
"We are very impressed by the speed at which Roborace has been developing driverless technology and hardware for its championship. Driverless technology is coming and we want to be at the forefront in terms of research and development."
Michelin is Roborace’s third official partner after A.I supplier Drive PX2 and smart electric truck maker Charge.
