Felix Rosenqvist will start Saturday's Formula E race in Marrakesh from pole position after early pace-setter Jean-Eric Vergne was left hamstrung by a timing mix-up in the final fight for pole.
Rosenqvist made his Formula E debut in Hong Kong last month, setting the fastest lap for Mahindra when fighting back from a mid-race spin, and managed to finish second in the first stage of qualifying in Marrakesh behind Vergne.
Rosenqvist carried his pace through to the Super Pole shoot-out, beating defending champion Sebastien Buemi's effort to secure provisional pole ahead of Vergne's run.
However, a "procedural error" by the Techeetah team meant that by the time Vergne was at pit exit, the red light was on, meaning he was not allowed to go out and set a qualifying lap. As a result, Rosenqvist had pole in the bag.
"We knew in Hong Kong we were quick. We even took it to the next step here with pole position here, very nice,” Rosenqvist said.
“We had to push quite hard, but the car has been really good all day. Big thanks to the team and the engineer for making it perfect."
Buemi will start alongside Rosenqvist on the front row, while Sam Bird finished third for DS Virgin Racing. Nelson Piquet Jr. continued his impressive form in qualifying to slot into fourth place, leaving Vergne to settle for P5 after the issue.
Daniel Abt ended up sixth-fastest for ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, leading its charge as teammate Lucas di Grassi ailed to 12th on the grid. Nicolas Prost was seventh for Renault e.dams ahead of Oliver Turvey as the Andretti pair of Robin Frijns and Antonio Felix da Costa rounded out the top 10.
