Jorge Lorenzo has admitted saying goodbye to the Yamaha MotoGP team “won’t be easy” ahead of his switch to Ducati in 2017.

The Spanish rider will compete with Yamaha for the final time in Valencia this weekend, at the MotoGP season finale.

His move to Ducati alongside Andrea Dovizioso will end a nine-year run competing for Yamaha at the top-tier of MotoGP, after he started racing in the series in 2008.

He’s won three MotoGP titles with Yamaha over the years but now takes on a new challenge with Ducati, having signed a two-year-deal from 2017.

Lorenzo is hoping to end the 2016 season and his time at Yamaha on a good note with a strong result in Valencia.

“The season is almost over and finally we arrive to Valencia, where I have some good memories, especially last year when we became World Champion again," he said.

"Valencia is going to be a very special race for me because after nine years [in MotoGP] with the Yamaha family I have to say goodbye and it won't be easy.

"I had a lot of good feelings with Yamaha and together we won a lot of races and titles…

"I would like to finish this season in the best way possible and that's with a victory, so I will do my best to try to win in Cheste and secure third in the championship as well."
