Ross Brawn ‘could be tempted back to Formula 1’ without the politics

Ross Brawn says he could be tempted back to Formula 1 again, but only if his role focussed on engineering without the usual politics that comes with a high-level job in the sport.

Writing in his upcoming book, 'Total competition: Lessons in strategy from Formula 1', the former Ferrari and Mercedes team principal revealed that he was offered a role behind the scenes, which involved setting out a future path for the sport and shaping the regulations.

However Brawn turned it down, as such a role would bring with it political challenges, which the 61-year-old described as the least enjoyable part of his F1 past.

"I've been invited to become involved in Formula 1 again and help perhaps shape the regulations or help shape the future of Formula 1," he wrote.

"And that invitation is to get involved in the politics of Formula 1, because that is what it's all about. That was probably the side I enjoyed least of what I did and therefore the side that is least attractive to me."

However he hasn't ruled out getting involved in the sport again in the future, adding: "If someone said, 'do you want to come back and do a bit of engineering?' I could be tempted."
