Ducati’s Andrea Iannone has been ruled out of this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix at Misano due to a back injury sustained in a FP1 crash.
Iannone was the first rider to fall in the session after losing control of his bike at Turn 13. He got up after the crash but was then taken to the medical centre for x-rays.
His Ducati team then announced he was transported to Cesena hospital, where checks revealed a back injury.
MotoGP said during the second practice session that Iannone has been “declared unfit due to [the] back injury sustained in [his] FP1 crash”.
Iannone looks set to miss the remainder of the weekend at Misano, with Ducati down to two riders – Andrea Dovizioso and wildcard entry Michele Pirro.
Valentino Rossi set the pace in a messy first practice session for the San Marino GP, with Pol Espargaro then moving to the front in FP2.
