Renault e.dams driver Sebastien Buemi put in the fastest time on the final day of Formula E testing, ahead of the 2016/2017 season opener in Hong Kong.
The reigning Formula E champion set a new lap record at the Donington Park circuit with a 1m28.910 at the wheel of his Renault Z.E.16.
He set the time in the morning session, also putting in the best attempt in the afternoon. But it couldn’t beat his earlier lap, which was the first under the 1m29 mark.
Nicolas Prost made it a Renault e.dams one-two with a lap two tenths slower than his team-mate. Sam Bird was third for DS Virgin Racing.
Jean-Eric Vergne set the pace on the first two days of the final Formula E test for the Renault-powered Techeetah outfit and he looked set to improve late on before an error.
That left him in fourth place, with Loic Duval, Daniel Abt, Jerome d’Ambrosio and Jose-Maria Lope next up.
Lucas di Grassi finished down in ninth. He could’ve also improved but he went off into the gravel while on a personal best to bring out the red flag.
It was one of several red flags during the day, which included one for Robin Frijns and his MS Amlin Andretti car. A few drivers also picked up penalties for hitting bollards at Turn 10 and overtaking under red flags.
Ma Qing Hua was 10th quickest in the second car for new team Techeetah, ahead of rookie Felix Rosenqvist, Oliver Turvey and Nick Heidfeld.
Frijns was 14th despite missing some track time. Mitch Evans was the lead Jaguar driver in 15th, with Adam Carroll down in 19th.
