Racing Engineering’s Norman Nato dominated the GP2 sprint race at Monza after storming into the lead on the opening lap.
The Frenchman lined up fourth on the grid but a great launch from the start line saw him snatch first place away from his team-mate Jordan King into the first chicane.
From there, Nato controlled the field and opened up a good-sized lead over the chasing pack. He proved to be unchallenged as those behind him battled for position.
Nato crossed the line 4.3 seconds clear of his nearest rival, with championship leader Pierre Gasly in second place – making up for his disappointment on Saturday.
His Prema Racing team-mate and title rival Antonio Giovinazzi went from eighth to third after a good start and some strong overtaking moves, passing King late on.
King lost out to Gustav Malja on the final lap but the Rapax driver was handed a 10-second time penalty for tagging Mitch Evans into the gravel on lap one.
He fell to ninth place and just outside the points, promoting Artem Markelov to fifth. Alex Lynn just beat Nobuharu Matsushita to sixth, with the ART Grand Prix driver settling for seventh.
His team-mate Sergey Sirotkin suffered another hit to his title challenge with a retirement in the middle of the race with a problem.
Nicholas Latifi picked up the final point in eighth, with Malja dropping to ninth and Marvin Kirchhofer completing the top 10.
Raffaele Marciello showed strong pace but he stalled on the formation lap, started from the pits and finished 16th.
Luca Ghiotto started third for Trident but a messy first lap saw him pitched into a spin on lap one by Oliver Rowland and he failed to finish.
