Audi snatched pole position from Porsche for the WEC 6 Hours of Mexico on Friday, with just 0.042 seconds splitting the two manufacturers at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

The #7 Audi R18 driven by Lucas di Grassi and Loic Duval set the quickest combined time, to give them an average of 1m25.069 to pip the #2 Porsche 919 of Neel Jani and Marc Lieb.

The #8 Audi of Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer set the quickest time, but Fassler's effort wasn't quick enough, placing the pair third, more than two-tenths adrift of the sister car.

An Audi-Porsche top four, with the #1 of Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber fourth, saw Toyota manage just fifth and sixth almost nine tenths shy for the #5 TS050 and more than two seconds adrift for the #6 car.

Rebellion lead ByKolles in seventh and eighth to complete the LMP1 field.

LMP2 saw local hero Ricardo Gonzalez score pole for the RGR Sport by Morand outfit, with team-mate Bruno Senna placing the #43 Ligier at the top of the timing screens with a 1m36.283, three-tenths ahead of the #36 Signatech Alpine, which caused a red flag when Nicolas Lapierre crashed.

Meanwhile Aston Martin led both the Pro and Am GT classes. The #95 car of Marco Sorenson and Nicki Thiim pipped the #97 of Richie Stanaway and Darren Turner by 0.142s.

Ferrari were third with the #51 entry of Gianmaria Bruni and James Calado.

Pedro Lamy and Paul Dalla Lana took pole in the Am class for Aston ahead of the Proton and Gulf Porsches.
