Pierre Gasly has clinched pole position for the GP2 feature race at Monza, beating Prema Racing team-mate Antonio Giovinazzi.
The Frenchman set the pace in practice and put in a 1m31.199 to take GP2 pole. Giovinazzi just missed out by 0.054 seconds but made it a Prema 1-2 for the team’s home race.
Artem Markelov backed up his practice pace with third for Russian Time. Arthur Pic and Mitch Evans were fourth and fifth for Rapax and Campos Racing.
Jordan King and Alex Lynn were sixth and seventh for Racing Engineering and DAMS respectively, ahead of Nabil Jeffri and Sergey Sirotkin.
Norman Nato completed the top 10. Luca Ghiotto was 11th for Trident and Oliver Rowland was 12th, completing the sixth row of the grid.
Raffaele Marciello could only manage the 13th quickest time for his home race, ahead of Nobuharu Matsushita, Marvin Kirchhofer and Nicolas Latifi.
Sergio Canamasas, Gustav Malja, Sean Gelael and Daniel de Jong rounded out the top 20. Philo Paz Armand and Jimmy Eriksson completed the qualifying results.
