Sergio Perez hoping to confirm Formula 1 future by Singapore GP

Force India driver Sergio Perez hopes that he will announce his Formula 1 plans for 2017 by the Singapore Grand Prix in two weeks' time.

Perez is currently in negotiations with his sponsors regarding a drive for 2017, amid speculation that he could be set to leave Force India for either Renault or Williams.

Perez does have a contract with Force India for 2017, but it is understood to have an escape clause that would allow him to leave should his sponsors decide on a move to another team.

After failing to secure a decision on his future over the summer as planned, Perez confirmed in Monza on Thursday that he hopes to be able to make an announcement before the next race in Singapore.

"Yes, hoping to announce everything by Singapore hopefully," Perez said.

"It looks like what's happening is what I always wanted, so I'm very happy for that.

When asked what it was he always wanted, Perez said: "You'll find out very soon."

The 2017 driver market was set into motion on Thursday when Williams' Felipe Massa announced he would be retiring from F1 at the end of the season.

Force India currently finds itself embroiled in a battle with Williams for fourth place in the constructors' championship, having overtaken the British team last weekend in Belgium.

"We've really worked the last few years. I think finally this year we've seen good progress," Perez said.

"Last year we managed to finish fifth in teh constructors' and that was a massive achievement, but we knew to move forward required a mega effort from everyone.

"In doing so, there's still a long way to go in the season and it's not going to be easy to hold onto fourth. But at least we're fighting at this level.

"It's a really good achievement for us. It's something that makes me feel extremely proud."
