The ABC Supply 500 from the Pocono Raceway has been postponed until Monday due to heavy rain, with the 200-lap race rescheduled for noon ET (5pm BST in the UK).
This comes after light rain began to fall over the 2.5-mile oval shortly after midday, with the rain intensifying as the scheduled race start time grew nearer.
With a heavier front of rain forecast to move in later in the day, INDYCAR officials made an early decision to postpone the race, therefore avoiding any false hope of getting the race underway.
This event is the second race of the season to be postponed due to rain, after the Firestone 600 at Texas was initially postponed to the following day back in June. Only 71 laps were completed that day before further rain hit the track and forced the race to be postponed once more with the remainder of the race set to completed on August 27.
Mikhail Aleshin has secured pole position for the race at Pocono, becoming the first Russian driver to do so in IndyCar history. Aleshin will eventually start the race tomorrow alongside Josef Newgarden.
Championship leader Simon Pagenaud will start the race from a lowly 14th position, with amazingly 18 drivers still mathematically capable of winning the championship. The Frenchman sits ahead of Will Power in the championship by 58 points.
