2014/2015 Formula E champion Nelson Piquet Jr. will return to NASCAR for the Xfinity series round at Mid-Ohio next month.
The Brazilian driver has been racing in the all-electric Formula E series since 2014, winning the title in its inaugural campaign but struggling to 15th in the latest season.
Piquet will race for Biagi-DenBeste Racing at the Mid-Ohio road course in the NASCAR Xfinity series on August 13.
Following his stint in Formula 1 with Renault in 2008 and 2009, Piquet switched to NASCAR racing in 2010.
He started by racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck championship, before making a full-time move up to the Nationwide series (now run under the ‘Xfinity’ name) in 2013.
He won three races while competing in the Camping World Truck and Xfinity series, as well as scoring five further top three finishes.
Piquet’s most recent NASCAR start was at the 2014 Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen, where he finished in 26th place.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be racing in Mid-Ohio next month,” the inaugural Formula E champion said on his return to the stock car series.
“NASCAR has been a huge part of my career and it is one of the best championships I’ve ever raced in.
“My first top tier NASCAR victory was at a road course, at Road America, and so I’m grateful to Biagi-DenBeste for giving me another road course opportunity.
“The Xfinity series is seriously competitive so I’m looking forward to getting there and seeing what we can do.”
