Lewis Hamilton has accepted the blame for his poor qualifying session which saw him run wide several times before eventually crashing out in the final top-ten shoot-out, leaving him tenth on the grid.
The Mercedes driver looked to have the mesaure of the field on Friday as he topped both practice sessions and was quickest on Saturday morning in final practice. However come qualifying, he seemed to struggle, admitting he "wasn't on it".
"Not too much [to say], I just wasn’t on it today," the Briton said, denying the low sun caught him out as it appeared to blind him from the onboard shot.
"It’s a fine line between being on it and not being on it, today was just one of those days, don’t have an answer for it, will try and make up for it tomorrow.
"It’s always difficult but I’ll give it my best shot, the other times [qualifying problems] were not my fault but today was my fault, apologies for the team and I’ll try and make up for it tomorrow."
Team-mate Nico Rosberg will start on pole position ahead of Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.
