The new Gibson Technology engine powering the LMP2 category of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2017 has officially been uncovered.
New rules will see a mandatory engine debut in LMP2 next season, with the Gibson GK428 being used in the FIA WEC, as well as the European Le Mans Series.
The first examples of the 600bhp, 4.2 litre V8 engine are currently being produced, with the four units being sent to constructors in mid-August.
ORECA, Onroak/Ligier, Dallara and Riley/Multimatic have been selected to create new P2 cars for the 2017 season.
The initial batch of engines will be delivered in time to support the constructor’s test schedules.
The Gibson GK428 will also be used in the Asian Le Mans Series in 2019 and the SportsCar Championship if it chooses to use the engine.
