Haas team principal Guenther Steiner says the team are beginning to regain their confidence following a couple of disappointing races in which their drivers complained about the cars handling and overall performance.
Following the highs of Australia and Bahrain – which saw the team finish sixth and fifth respectively – their best finish since then has been an eighth in Russia, whilst the team failed to score in China, Spain and Monaco.
However following the post-Spanish Grand Prix test, Steiner says they've regained confidence in the car and the tyres.
"In just doing the test in Barcelona after the Spanish Grand Prix, we gained back confidence in what we were doing," he said.
"In China and in Russia, we struggled with finding the proper working range of the tyres. Now, we just have more confidence in our whole package. We’re back to where we were at the beginning of the season."
Both Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez agree that things have taken a step forward since the test and they believe Monaco proved that, despite the result which came down to a number of other factors.
"The car reacted much better to what we were doing, and to my driving style," said Grosjean. "That was a good thing, and a good direction. We got back to more common settings and worked from there."
Esteban added: "The more we know the car, the more comfortable and confident I feel. Every time we go out, I know a better direction to follow with the setup."
