Daniel Ricciardo has hit out at his team after he missed out on victory in Monaco, after a pit-stop error cost him the lead.
The Australian led after the Safety Car start and pulled a 20-second advantage to the Mercedes cars after just ten laps, but a strategy gamble for eventual race winner Lewis Hamilton meant Ricciardo – who stopped for intermediate tyres – found himself in second, behind the Briton.
With Hamilton eventually stopping for slicks, he looked set to emerge behind Ricciardo by some ten seconds as the Australian put in a quick in-lap before stopping himself. Yet as Ricciardo entered his pit box, the team weren't ready with tyres, costing him around ten seconds.
Ricciardo eventually emerged just behind Hamilton as he left the pitlane, where he remained until the checkered flag.
"Yeah, I don't know. I don't even want to comment on the race to be honest," Ricciardo said on the podium having finished second.
"Thanks to the fans, thanks for sticking out in this weather. From the outside we put on a show. Shouldn't have been as exciting as it was to be honest.
"Two weeks in a row now I've been screwed, so it sucks," he added. "It hurts."
When asked about the stop and whether it was his call, he replied: "Nope. No idea. I was called in the box, I didn't make the call. I was called in," he explained. "They should have been ready.
"It hurts, it hurts. I don't have anything else to say to be honest. We had the speed in the wet on the start. We pulled away, pitted for inters, and we put ourself in a race with Lewis that we didn't need to be in.
"Then the pit stop was the pit stop. I felt I was the quickest in all conditions. Second place doesn't show much for it."
