Team Aguri will run Audi's Rene Rast this weekend at the Berlin ePrix in place of Antonio Felix da Costa, with the Portugese driver on duty for BMW's DTM team in Austria.
Aguri looked set to confirm Adam Carroll as Da Costa's replacement and had notified the FIA of the change, but the deal fell through at the last-minute.
Aguri have now turned to Rast, who has yet to drive a Formula E car, but has been preparing in the team's simulator for the past few days.
"I have been in the simulator for the last few days to get a good feel for the car," said Rast.
"While these cars have their own unique demands, I am confident that I can get up to speed quickly and use my experience in energy management to deliver a strong result for the team."
Aguri team principal Mark Preston is confident in Rast's abilities, particularly in energy management having raced for Audi's LMP1 team last year, before the German manufacturer reduced its line-up to just two cars.
"While we came close to agreements with some other famous names, Rene's energy management skills, professional approach and pace made him an obvious choice."
