Brad Pitt will wave off the 60 cars competing in the 84th instalment of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this June, the series has confirmed.
The Hollywood star will attend the prestigious event on June 18 and will wave the starter flag, president of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, Pierre Fillon, confirmed on Twitter.
The decision may surprise some, but Pitt has previously been linked with a Le Mans film focussing on the head-to-head battles between Ford and Ferrari in the 1960s.
The film is listed as "under development" by IMDB, with Tom Cruise lined up to play the part of Carroll Shelby.
Other race startes have included Fernando Alonso in 2015, FIA president Jean Todt and former-Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo.
