Toyota took a surprise 1-2 in second practice for the Belgian round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, after lagging behind rivals Porsche in the opening session by more than 1.4 seconds.
Stephane Sarrazin in the #6 Toyota TS050 led the way with a best time of 1m58.556s, whilst the second #5 Toyota, driven by Kazuki Nakajima, was just 0.155s adrift of the sister car,
The Japanese marque had a comfortable lead over the Porsche cars. The #1 driven by Mark Webber could only get to within seven-tenths off the lead Toyota, whilst the #2 was a further fourt-tenths back with Marc Lieb setting the quickest time of the trio.
Audi ended up fifth fastest thanks to Benoit Treluyer, albeit 1.7s off the pace. Meanwhile the sister car failed to take part in the session due to a drivetrain failure, which the team were unable to repair in time for the session.
ByKolles split the two Rebellion cars to complete the LMP1 field, with the trio between six and seven seconds back.
In the LMP2 field, it was the new Manor team that set the pace as ex-Formula 1 racer Roberto Merhi went quickest in the #45 ORECA, leading fellow ex-F1 driver Giedo van der Garde in the G-Drive Jota Sport car – eight-tenths behind.
The GTE Pro class was led by the #51 AF Corse Ferrari driven by James Calado and the GTE AM class by Rui Aguas.
The session was stopped with seven minutes left on the clock when the #50 Larbre Chevrolet car of Yutaka Yamagishi ended up in the barriers, bringing out the red flags.
