The 6 Hours of Silverstone race-winning No. 7 Audi has been disqualified over a technical infringement, provisionally handing overall victory to the No. 2 Porsche.
The Audi R18, driven to victory by Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler on Sunday at the opening-round of the season in Silverstone, underwent post-race scrutineering and was found to be over the permitted skid plank wear tolerances allowed under the regulations.
A bulletin posted by the stewards revealed that the wear on the Audi's skid block exceeded the maximum allowed by just 5mm, which the team blamed on "circumstances during the race".
It added: "The stewards consider it is the liability of the competitor to respect the Technical Regulations in any case in order the car complies after the race with this regulation."
Therefore their decision was to exclude the car from the results, handing victory to the Porsche 919 Hybrid driven by Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb.
Audi can appeal their exclusion and must inform the FIA before midnight if the wish to do so, though it's believed they won't.
The revised podium sees the No. 6 Toyota TS050 Hybrid of Stephane Sarrazin, Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayshi elevated to second, with the final step filled by the No. 13 Rebellion R-One AER driven by Alexandre Imperatori, Dominik Kraihamer and Matheo Tuscher.
