The No.7 Audi secured pole position for the 6 Hours of Silverstone, after Andre Lotterer and Marcel Fassler ended qualifying fastest.
Their combined two-lap averages produced a 1m53.204, beating the No.8 Audi of team-mates Loid Duval and Lucas Di Grassi by 0.104 seconds. Lotterer and Fassler will race alongside Benoit Treluyer on Sunday.
The fastest times from Audi has brought to an end Porsche’s 11-race run of qualifying success in the WEC, giving the German manufacturer its first pole since Fuji in 2013.
Porsche’s two entries were third and fourth, with Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley’s No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid ahead of the sister No.2 machine of Neel Jani and Romain Dumas.
The Toyota TS050 Hybrids were fifth and sixth respectively, with ByKolles best of the LMP1 privateers. G-Drive Racing proved quick in practice and backed that up with pole position in LMP2, thanks to Rene Rast.
Meanwhile in GTE-Pro, Davide Rigon and Sam Bird had the quickest two-lap combined average with a 2m12.440 in their No.71 Ferrari 488 GTE.
They finished 1.34 seconds clear of the No.77 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR of Richard Lietz and Michael Christensen. The No.66 Ford GT of Olivier Pla and Stefan Muecke were third.
In GTE-Am Klaus Bachler and Khaled Al Qubaisi were quickest in their No.88 Porsche 911 RSR, beating the KCMG-backed Porsche of Wolf Henzler and Christian Ried.
