Koiranen GP's Matthew Parry was fastest on day two of the second pre-season GP3 test at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.
Parry set his time in a morning session which started off wet, after a shower soaked the track. Wet tyres were the order of the day initially, and with lap times decreasing with every lap as moisture cleared, Giuliano Alesi became the first driver to post a time under one minute thirty, topping the sheets for Trident.
As the track dried, slicks became the way to go, and the lap times tumbled even further. The Koiranen team-mates provided most of the action as the track dried; Parry and Matevos Isaakyan trading fastest times, before Ralph Boschung stopped on track, bringing out the red flag momentarily.
With the tarmac at its best just before lunch, Parry posted a time of 1m21.476s – just under a tenth faster than pace-setter Nirei Fukuzumi, who was himself only four thousandths ahead of ART's Charles Leclerc.
That put Parry, Fukuzumi, and Leclerc at the top, followed by Alexander Albon, Artur Janosz, Nyck de Vries, Oscar Tunjo, Antonio Fuoco, Alex Palou and Jake Hughes.
After Lunch, the top three from the morning continued to set the pace. Fukuzumi initially led the times, but was out-done by Parry. Charles Leclerc then set a time of 1m22.089s to take the honours, just ahead of Jake Hughes, who improved to second place withing the final thirty minutes.
The afternoon session wound to a close, and Leclerc's time remained the best, ahead of Hughes, Parry, Santino Ferrucci, Boschung, Kevin Jörg, Fukuzumi, Alexander Albon, Jake Dennis and Konstantin Tereshchenko.
The third and final GP3 pre-season test will be held at the Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on 20-21 April.
