Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled its new TS050 Hybrid LMP1 car ahead of the first FIA World Endurance Championship test at the Paul Ricard track.

Following on from recent reveals by rival manufacturers Audi and Porsche, Toyota has now uncovered its new car it will race with in 2016.

The TS050 Hybrid features a brand new 2.4 litre twin-turbo V6 engine and battery system, now running in the 8MJ hybrid subclass. Despite new hybrid technology, the car still uses motor generators on the front and rear axles.

It is Toyota’s third all-new WEC LMP1 car since joining the endurance racing series in 2012. It is also the first to be powered by a turbo engine, previously using a naturally-aspirated V8.

Other updates to the car include changes to the gearbox and a new aerodynamic package.

“The team has worked extremely hard on the TS050 Hybrid, which is the result of a close, productive cooperation,” team director Rob Leupen said.

“Our innovative motorsport technology, as well as the R&D opportunities in Cologne, is contributing to making ever-better cars and the development of road car engineers.”

The No.5 car will be driven by Anthony Davidson, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima. Meanwhile Kamui Kobayashi, Stephane Sarrazin and Mike Conway will race the No.6 machine.
