Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo led a Yamaha one-two finish in first practice for the 2016 season opener in Qatar.
Lorenzo was fastest for the majority of the session, improving late on with a 1:55.440 to top the timesheets as MotoGP returned to Losail.
His team-mate Valentino Rossi was just under three tenths further back in second place, ahead of Ducati's Andrea Iannone and Hector Barbera.
The Suzuki of Maverick Vinales completed the top five in practice one. Pol Espargaro in the Tech 3 Yamaha and the Honda duo of Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez were next up.
Andrea Dovizioso and Scott Reading, for Ducati and Pramac, rounded out the top 10. Bradley Smith was 11th despite a fall at Turn 13 in the closing minutes.
Second practice for the opening round of the MotoGP season takes place at 18:00 local time on Friday.
