Porsche has confirmed that LMP1 technical director Alexander Hitzinger will leave the company at the end of the month to pursue projects outside of motorsport.
Hitzinger first joined Porsche back in 2011, and has played an integral role in returning the German marque to the top table of endurance racing.
Porsche returned to the LMP1 class in 2014 before going on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans last June and the FIA World Endurance Championship in November with the 919 Hybrid car.
Porsche issued a statement on Friday confirming that Hitzinger will leave the company on March 31.
"On behalf of Porsche I want to thank Alexander Hitzinger very much for his huge contribution to the outstanding successes of the Porsche 919 Hybrid," Porsche LMP1 vice-president Fritz Enzinger said.
"He was one of the first people to come on board at the end of 2011. I appreciate his desire for a new challenge.
"We are well prepared for the 2016 season. Within our team, which has a total of 260 employees, we also have a remarkably strong group of engineers working for the management team. The 2016 Porsche 919 Hybrid is ready to go."
