Penske racers Juan Pablo Montoya and Will Power will both run commemorative liveries during IndyCar’s 2016 season-opening St. Petersburg round, in honour of Roger Penske’s 50th year as a team owner.
The special livery, which will consist primarily of silver with red streaks, will only feature on Montoya’s No. 2 and Power’s No. 12 machines, with team-mate’s Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud set to run their standard liveries throughout the weekend.
Despite starting his motorsport career as a driver, Roger Penske retired in 1965 and launched Penske Racing at the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona.
Since then Team Penske have become one of the most respected and successful outfits in IndyCar, winning a record 16 times at the Indianapolis 500, including last season with Montoya at the wheel.
While the special commemorative livery will only feature during the season opener, Castroneves will run the famous “yellow submarine” livery at the Indianapolis 500, a livery made famous by Rick Mears in 1984 and 1988.
