2015 GP3 runner-up Luca Ghiotto has been announced at Trident for this year’s GP2 season.
The Italian racer previously won races in Formula Abarth and Formula Renault 2.0, before moving up to the Formula Renault 3.5 series in 2014.
Driving for International Draco Racing, he finished 17th in the championship and also made his debut in the GP3 series with Trident, competing in four races.
He remained with Trident for a full campaign in 2015, winning five races and ending the year in second place.
Ghiotto missed out on the title by eight points, with ART Grand Prix’s Esteban Ocon being crowned champion in Abu Dhabi.
Trident has now confirmed Ghiotto will race for the team in 2016, becoming its first confirmed GP2 driver. He previously tested for Trident at the post-season Abu Dhabi test last year.
"I can’t wait to line-up for this new adventure," he said. "Last year, it was tough for me to fight so hard and not winning the title.
"However, it has been an extremely useful experience with the help of the excellent teamwork among the whole Trident stable. I really look forward to be back on-track."
