Former Chip Ganassi Racing driver Sage Karam has confirmed that he will be racing in this year’s Indianapolis 500 with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
Karam made his debut in IndyCar with DRR at Indianapolis Motor Speedway back in 2013 where he battled from 31st on the grid to finish ninth as the second-highest rookie.
Karam secured a seat in the fourth Ganassi for 2015, sharing the seat with Sebastian Saavedra. The American enjoyed a quietly impressive season, recording a best finish of third at the Iowa Corn 300, but it wasn’t enough to extend his deal with the team.
However, Karam will return to IndyCar in some role this year after announcing a deal with DRR last week that confirms his participation in the 100th Indianapolis 500.
DRR also announced a new partnership with Gas Monkey Garage, which will enjoy heavy branding on the sidepod of Karam’s car for the race at IMS.
“I’m really thrilled to be associated with Gas Monkey Garage for the 100th Indy 500,” Karam said. “It’s exciting to return to the Dreyer & Reinbold-Kingdom team as well. We had a great run in 2014 at Indy.
“As a kid, Discovery Channel was one of my favorite stations and, mostly recently, I really got into the ‘Fast N’ Loud’ show with the Gas Monkey Garage guys. I love cars and these guys are fun to watch. So I can’t wait to work with them and drive the Gas Monkey Special in May.”
