Antonio Giovinazzi will make his debut in the GP2 series in 2016, driving for the new Prema Racing outfit.
The Italian has raced in the European Formula 3 championship for the last three seasons, finishing runner-up to Prema’s Felix Rosenqvist in 2015 after scoring six victories and 14 further podiums.
Having raced against the team in F3, Giovinazzi will move up to GP2 with the Italian outfit, which debuts in the series after taking over the entry of Lazarus.
The 22-year-old tested in GP2 with Carlin at the 2015 post-season test. He will retain sponsorship from Jagonya Ayam.
“I am delighted to become a part of Prema, a prestigious team with a huge motorsport culture,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for me, because they always showed that they are the best possible choice for a young driver, and I am determined to take the best out of this chance by working as good as I possibly can.”
