Racing Engineering has announced that Jordan King will remain at the team for the 2016 GP2 season.

The British driver made his debut in the F1 feeder series with the Italian outfit last year, finishing 12th in the championship and scoring one podium with second place in the sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps.

After winning the MRF Formula 1600 India series in 2011 and finishing runner-up in Formula Renault 2.0 NEC in the following year, King moved up to Formula 3 for 2013. He finished sixth in the European series and won the British title.

The 21-year-old remained in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship for 2014, ending the year seventh overall, before making the move up to GP2 with Racing Engineering and being signed as Manor F1’s development driver.

He is the first to be confirmed at Racing Engineering for the 2016 season. "Firstly I finished the year on a high after just winning the FIA institute and performing well on the last couple of weekends I went into the end of year testing with Racing Engineering confident and it gave us a lot of time to run through everything we needed to,” he said.

“So for that reason it felt right to stay with the team as I have built up a good relationship with the guys and I think keeping continuity is worth a lot in any junior championship specially in a year in which I will be going for the championship and I know the team will be fully behind me to make that happen and will put out all the stops to give it their best shot."
