Williams has chosen to withdraw its appeal against Felipe Massa’s exclusion from the Brazilian Grand Prix, citing cost as one of the reasons it won’t pursue the action.
The Brazilian had finished eighth last weekend, securing four points for the Grove outfit, but he was later excluded over tyre temperatures.
The FIA claimed a measurement taken on the grid identified that Massa’s right-rear tyre was 27 degrees centigrade above the maximum allowed tyre temperature prescribed by tyre supplier Pirelli.
Williams claim the reading was incorrect, as they took three separate measurements which all confirmed his tyres were within the limits allowed
They therefore lodged an appeal, but have now withdrawn it as those four points won’t impact their finishing position in the championship standings as they are already guaranteed third.
“Following detailed consideration the team has concluded that despite not agreeing with the exclusion and believing it has sufficient evidence with which to successfully contest the ruling, it will not formally appeal the decision as a hearing date is unlikely to be available until after the end of the season impacting a time when the team wishes to turn its attention to its 2016 campaign,” a Williams statement read.
“Given the financial climate of the sport, and the fact that the decision does not impact the team’s Constructors’ Championship position, it has been decided that this would be an unnecessary cost to endure.”
