Carlos Sainz is hoping to compete in Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix despite suffering a high-speed crash during third practice on Saturday morning.
The Spaniard was airlifted to hospital to undergo precautionary checks after losing control of his Toro Rosso at Turn 13, resulting in a heavy impact with the barriers.
Whilst he will remain in hospital overnight, he is keen to race on Sunday after his doctors confirmed he sustained no injuries.
“After arriving at the Sochi Hospital 4, Carlos Sainz, who never lost consciousness, underwent a medical examination, including a full body scan. The scan showed that the driver has no injuries,” confirmed his team.
“However, he will be staying in the hospital overnight as a precautionary measure, which is the normal procedure in these circumstances.
“We will release further information when it is available.”
Writing on Twitter, Sainz said he was hoping to convince his doctor to give him the all clear to race.
“Everything OK! Nothing to worry about,” he wrote. “Already thinking about how to convince the doctors to let me run tomorrow!”
