Daniil Kvyat walked away from a high-speed crash during the final stage of qualifying which brought out the red flags and prematurely ended the days running.
The Red Bull driver ran slightly wide on the exit of Turn 9 and then lost the rear as his rear-wheels lost traction. He span into the tyre wall before his car flipped over completely, landing the right side up.
When asked how he felt after a brief stop at the circuit’s medical centre, he responded: “Good thanks, more disappointment than pain.”
Explaining what happened, he added: “I just made a mistake with two wheels on the grass, no run off area and nowhere to go.
“It [the car] looks really bad, sorry to the guys. It’s been a tough couple of weeks and now with this accident.”
It’s almost certain that Kvyat will start from the pit lane, with a replacement chassis and gearbox on the cards according to team principal Christian Horner.
