Nico Rosberg managed to convert his first pole position of the 2015 season into his first victory of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.

The German closed the gap to team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the championship, but only by seven points as the Briton finished just behind in second.

Hamilton dropped to third at the start of the race after a poor getaway, but during his second stop he managed to jump Sebastian Vettel, 3rd, but was too far behind Rosberg to challenge the German for victory.

Valtteri Bottas managed to hold onto fourth, despite Kimi Raikkonen charging behind him. Raikkonen eventually finished fifth just eight-tenths shy of the Williams.

The second Williams of Felipe Massa as sixth ahead of Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull, the Lotus of Romain Grosjean, Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz and the second Red Bull of Daniil Kvyat.

The race saw two retirements in Pastor Maldonado and Fernando Alonso. The former suffered a broken rear-wing endplate, but that didn’t perturb him and he carried on until the team chose to retire him.

Alonso meanwhile suffered brake failure as he entered his pit box and therefore overshot his marks, almost hitting his front jack-man in the process.

Grosjean’s jack-man wasn’t so lucky when the Frenchman overshot his marks as well. But an ice-pack to the groin was all he needed.
