Ecclestone optimistic after meeting Marussia investor

Bernie Ecclestone is hopeful that a deal to secure Marussia’s future will go ahead after he held discussions with the mystery investor himself.

A planned sale of the teams assets was postponed earlier this week by administrators after it emerged that talks to rescue the team were at an advanced stage.

Ecclestone says there is a “chance” the team can be saved, but he wasn’t so optimistic for Marussia’s main rival, Caterham, which also entered bankruptcy late last year.

“I had a meeting with someone this morning that said they want to, and think they can buy Marussia, so that would be good,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Caterham, I don’t think there is much chance of saving them, but Marussia there is a chance. Maybe within 10 days I think we will be able to say whether it is going to happen or not.”

Rumours that Gene Haas might be the ‘interested party’ aren’t true, according to Ecclestone who simply replied “no” when asked if that was who he met with.

Meanwhile, Haas has released a statement confirming he has no interest in purchasing the team, despite recently acquiring the team’s Banbury factory.

“Haas F1 Team has no interest in purchasing Marussia or any other team,” read the brief statement.
