Force India have confirmed that they will delay the on-track debut of their 2015 car, the VJM08, after taking a development decision to run the 2014 car at the first test in Jerez.
The outfit is set to reveal its new livery on January 21st at an event in Mexico, however it’s likely to be the VJM07 that they use, rather than the 2015 car.
That will debut at the second pre-season test in Barcelona on February 19th according to the team.
Force India’s decision is largely due to the two-week break between the first and second test which the team believe would be better spent developing the car, rather than shipping it to and from Spain.
The team have also switched wind tunnels from their own to Toyota’s facility in Germany. Therefore technical director Andrew Green believes running the 2014 car on-track will allow them to better understand the wind tunnel figures coming from Cologne before committing to their 2015 development package.
Force India are the only team so far to confirm that their 2015 car will be absent from the first test.
