Nico Hulkenberg has confirmed that he will race in Le Mans next season with Porsche, alongside his commitments with the Force India F1 Team.
The German will get behind the wheel of the third Porsche 919 in Belgium as part of a practice run for Le Mans later in the year.
“Porsche and Le Mans – this combination probably attracts every race driver,” said Hulkenberg. “I’ve been a Porsche fan for a long time and have been watching their return to the LMP1 class closely.
“The desire grew to drive that car at Le Mans. I am very pleased the 2015 Formula 1 calendar allows for it and I’m grateful to my Force India Formula 1 team’s generosity to let me go for it.
“Now it’s up to me to work hard to satisfy both commitments.”
Teams rarely allow their drivers to compete in other forms of motorsport outside of the F1 commitments, but Force India’s decisions means Hulkenberg will be the first full-time F1 driver to race in Le Mans since Sebastien Bourdais in 2009.
