Mercedes have discovered exactly what went wrong with Nico Rosberg’s gearbox during lap 29 of the British Grand Prix, causing the German to retire from the lead.
Mercedes technical boss Paddy Lowe is confident the problem has been solved and shouldn’t resurface again this season.
“The main priority of the days since [the British GP] has been to understand the gearbox problem we saw with Nico’s car and to make sure there is no recurrence moving forwards,” Lowe said.
“As with any such scenario, a lot of work has been put into rectifying the issue and we head to Hockenheim with a remedy in place.”
The team will also bring upgrades to the German GP which it hopes will see it take another step forward.
“We will also be bringing a number of other upgrades evaluated during the Silverstone test last week, so we look forward to the next race in the hopes of both improved performance and a more robust package from a reliability perspective.”
