Valtteri Bottas believes Williams challenge for victory in Austria might well be a one-off for the team, but he’s confident they can be best of the rest going forward.
The Finn qualified second on the grid behind pole sitter and team-mate Felipe Massa and raced to third and fourth on Sunday, finishing seconds behind the Mercedes duo.
But he expects the status quo of Mercedes racing off into the distance to continue for the rest of the year.
“I think overall Mercedes has been performing really, really strongly. It’s been difficult to keep up with them in most of the races – I think Austria was maybe a one-off, we will see,” he said.
“We know that we have been improving but you expect everyone else to as well. It’s difficult to say. I think this season, we are going to see, it’s going to vary quite a bit the performance between us and them, so we will see. We will do our best.”
He heads into the British Grand Prix confident that Williams can fight for ‘best of the rest’ behind Mercedes after finally putting together an error-free weekend last time out.
“It’s really good to continue from here,” he added. “There have been many opportunities we could have done a lot better in previous races and now we’ve done a solid job, so that’s good to see. We know we can do it, so it’s good to continue from here.”
