Jenson Button will be sporting a distinctive pink helmet at the British Grand Prix this year in tribute to his late-father, John Button.
The Briton passed away earlier this year at the age of 70 and was a regular face in the paddock and on F1 coverage, more often than not he could be picked out by his pink shirt.
Button has called upon his and McLaren’s fans to wear something pink in tribute and to tweet with the hashtag ‘#pinkforpapa’.
“This race is going to be a special one for me because it was always such an important race for my dad,” he said.
“I’ll be wearing a special pink helmet for the race weekend, and I’m hoping people will enter into the spirit of supporting the #pinkforpapa effort to wear something pink on Sunday to honour his memory.
“He won’t be there this year, but he’ll always be with us in spirit – I hope he brings me some extra luck on Sunday.”
McLaren has also been raising funds for the Henry Surtees Foundation through sales of a limited edition ‘John Button Tribute T-Shirt’ which is available at McLarenStore.com.
The foundation supports those affected by brain or physical injuries caused by motorsport-related accidents.
