Mika Hakkinen believes Ferrari’s driver line-up could change next season with at least one of the two drivers departing Maranello.
Whilst Fernando Alonso is some distance ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the championship standings, speculation suggests the Spaniard might soon jump ship having grown tired of Ferrari’s uncompetitiveness.
McLaren looks like one of his most likely destinations as the Woking squad looks to sign a ‘star driver’ ahead of their reunion with Honda next year.
Hakkinen however hints that Ferrari could lose both, but for very different reasons.
“In my opinion Ferrari is more and more into the situation of eventually replacing one of the two drivers,” said the Finn.
“The comments being made by Fernando Alonso do not sound like someone who will be with Ferrari for much longer.”
Whilst Alonso’s decision to leave might be his own, fellow Finn Kimi Raikkonen might not have a choice to make as he’s struggled to match Alonso this year.
“I don’t want to say anything against Kimi Raikkonen, except that he is constantly behind his team-mate,” added Hakkinen.
Another driver to catch his eye, for different reasons, is Sebastian Vettel who has struggled to match his team-mate as well.
“I do not understand how it is possible that his car is permanently broken. Incredible.”
