Daniel Ricciardo claimed his maiden victory in what was a thrilling and dramatic Canadian Grand Prix which saw both Mercedes cars hit trouble.

The Australian called the victory “remarkable” after he came through the field to take the win after both Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton suffered power unit troubles on the same lap.

Hamilton would eventually retire as a result of the issue which caused a brake failure, whilst Rosberg spent the second half of the race fending off Sergio Perez, before Ricciardo jumped the Mexican to take P2 and then claimed victory on the penultimate lap.

The final lap saw Felipe Massa lose out on fifth or potentially fourth after he collided with Perez – then in fourth – at turn one, ending both their races.

Jenson Button benefitted from the last lap drama, whilst Nico Hulkenberg fought off Fernando Alonso for fifth.

Valtteri Bottas, Jean-Eric Vergne, Kevin Magnussen and Kimi Raikkonen claimed the last points paying positions.

The Marussia duo both retired on lap one when they came together at turns 3/4, bringing out an early safety car which controlled the race for eight laps before it came in.
