Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez will not take part in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix on Saturday after his car sustained serious damage during practice.
The Mexican lost control of his C33 during third practice and spun into the wall at the turn 3/4 chicane, bringing out the red flags.
Due to the extent of the damage to his chassis, his engineers have been forced to prepare a spare chassis for Gutierrez to use during Sunday’s race.
The team confirmed they wouldn’t have the spare chassis prepared in time for qualifying and he will therefore likely start last or from the pit lane once the stewards have deemed him fit to race.
