Nico Rosberg will continue as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate in 2015 after reportedly agreeing a new two-year extension to his contract.
The German’s contract had been set to expire at the end of the current season, prompting rumours that Fernando Alonso might replace him.
The Spaniard has dropped hints recently that he isn’t impressed with Ferrari and their recent form which has seen him without a win since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.
Head of Mercedes-Benz, Dieter Zetsche, also spoke highly of the 32-year-old recently, describing him as “perhaps the best driver” on the grid.
However Zetsche added that he believes Mercedes currently has “the strongest line-up” in Rosberg and Hamilton and is therefore keen to continue with the status quo.
A new deal for the German is expected to be confirmed within the next few weeks, whilst team-mate Hamilton is still under contract until the end of 2015 as part of an original three-year deal.
